All X WELL

The Jivus project is a think tank for social change and benefit for all beings. However we are, for the lack of a better term, focusing on our first app.

From 2020 to 2022 I decided to learn how to code again. I built an app that I wished I had when my wife and I were managing the critical care of three of our parents that succumbed to terminal chronic diseases. We were raising two kids, had jobs and startups ( including dealing with brutal Silicon Valley backstabbers and fraudsters ). We still have a 93 year old Arsenal fan that we live with and take care of. I learn from the experiences of helping him with simplest of stuff such as for him to answer a phone call when my wife and I are away from home!! And that ain’t easy.

As a Dad joke maestro who is a Gen X er. And probably the only one who enjoys the subtext of ALL multiplied by Well and the X, I am going with AllxWell as the tag/name/label for the first app.

The purpose of the AllxWell  is to explore comprehensive solutions for aging in place, i.e., people who want to stay in their own homes to maintain independence for as long as possible, while turning to family and friends for help when needed. But making sure that they are leaning on them with as little burden as possible.

While people have been caregivers for their family members forever, and there is a spectrum of resources available, setting up the logistics and finances and managing the activities to make this happen is often burdensome and challenging for people and their families. Each time, people find and develop their own methods and setup. More often than not, the children of the people aging, sandwiched between the pressure of caring for their own children and maintaining their own careers and income levels, end up owning the Aging-In-Place activities for their parents. They are typically between the mid-thirties to mid-sixties, while most may be in their mid-forties to mid-fifties.

Looking back, one would likely acknowledge this time as their most challenging time. A significant portion of this population is going through many simultaneous complex changes. There are biological changes, their children are transitioning from childhood to adulthood and experiencing their own uncertainty and challenges of this transition ( ok I am politely referring to the dreaded teen years y’all ).

In their careers, they usually end up in a stage where they are under scrutiny from their corporate employers to justify their salaries, and if they are small and medium business owners, the ongoing battle to stay in business.

Add to this the growing awareness and concerns of preparing for their aging, and you have the perfect storm that consumes a better part of what could be and should be a fun part of living. We often see people feeling tired all the time, going through anxiety and depression, marriage breakdowns, financial breakdowns, and developing health issues that end up determining the rest of their lives. This can and should change.

As of May 20, 2024, this demographic is Generation X, i.e., those born between 1965 and 1981 or aged 59 to 43. People in this age group have either gone through, or are going through, or will go through the Age-In-Place process for their parents. They will also be preparing for their own Age-In-Place plan.

The existing state-of-the-art processes and methods that are in place have failed Generation X. The financial and logistical (or the lack of it) systems that are in place are outdated and inefficient and were built without incorporating the possibilities and challenges of the current times. Generation X has been responsible for engendering the biggest and the most rapid changes in the evolution of technology for the human race. They need systems and processes that fully exploit the current state of the art and are adaptable to the exponential pace of change and the uncertainty ahead. AllXWell will focus on this demographic . It will research and solve for the various vectors at play, i.e., the pressure/challenges/forces and their source/direction and the most practical ways to soften them. AllXWell will take a comprehensive approach from the financial angle to the logistical angle, using the future direction of technology as an enabler to guide it along the way.

The last two decades have seen a dramatic shift in people's adoption of technology and change in their behavior socially. What seemed unthinkable in 2004, socially, is an acceptable and widespread reality in 2024. So, with that as a lesson, I and the team shall challenge all current hypotheses and embrace all that may be untested or unlikely, to anticipate and incorporate into the design of its solutions.
